Dennis graduated with honors from California Polytechnic State University at San Luis Obispo in 1976 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration. He received his Juris Doctor degree in 1979 from the University of the Pacific, McGeorge School of Law and joined the firm that year.

He is a principal with the firm and a former longtime member of the Civil Litigation and the Environmental and Land Use Practice Groups. A distinguished trial attorney and prominent community member, Dennis’ many years of litigation practice taught him the value of mediation in resolving disputes.

In 2016 he pursued a longtime interest in formalizing his mediation training, attending the Straus Institute for Dispute Resolution at Pepperdine University School of Law. He has already mediated a number of matters, experience that has confirmed his interest in devoting the remainder of his career to mediation services.

Dennis comes to mediation from a legal practice that has included a diverse array of general civil litigation cases including business and property disputes, land use, construction, design professional, trust and probate, employment and many others. He has focused on real property and business disputes, including specialties in land use counseling and litigation. He handled a wide variety of civil litigation matters, ranging from very small matters requiring attention to economics and efficiency to very large and complex litigation matters requiring extensive attention to strategic, management and sometimes public relations issues. Dennis was the lead trial attorney on numerous jury and bench trials and lead attorney on several cases litigated before the California Court of Appeal.

While many of Dennis’ matters have gone to trial, nearly every case, whether litigated or not, involved some type of creative settlement considerations. This is where Dennis Law shines. He considers himself a problem solver, not a problem litigator. His experience and beliefs bring substantive value to the mediation process for virtually any type of dispute (litigated or non-litigated), and especially those that match his litigation experience.

He is guided by his personal belief in the need for fairness, reasonableness and civility. Throughout his legal career, Dennis has been very involved in a variety of community organizations. He has served as former Director, President and Board Counsel for the San Luis Obispo Chamber of Commerce, Charter President of the San Luis Obispo Property Owners Association, former President of the San Luis Obispo Lions Club, former President of the San Luis Obispo Mozart Festival and former Adjunct Professor of Business Law at California Polytechnic State University. Dennis is a past president of the San Luis Obispo Bar Association and has served on the Board of Directors for the Foundation for the Performing Arts Center.

Dennis Law’s mediation services will reflect the same quality, dedication and tenacity that have been hallmarks of his career.
